In 2024, the University of Jena collaborates with partner universities in Ukraine and various other countries to offer online study programs for students and teachers. These programs are specifically designed to cater to individuals from Ukraine. During the spring and autumn semesters of 2024, students have the chance to participate in these online programs. Moreover, an enticing opportunity awaits them, as they can apply for one of the 44 scholarships worth 800 euros, with 22 places available for each semester.

Autumn Semester 2024

  • Online Courses in Digital Ukrainian Philology (August - December 2024)

    The program is designed for students of Ukrainian universities - bachelor's and master's students who are interested in the practical aspects of linguistics and contemporary issues in literary studies. Postgraduates can attend as auditors but are not eligible for scholarships.

    The application deadline for the Autumn Semester is August 1st, 2024.

Spring Semester 2024

  • Online Courses in Digital Ukrainian Philology (January - June 2024)

    The program is designed for students of Ukrainian universities - bachelor's and master's students who are interested in the practical aspects of linguistics and contemporary issues in literary studies. Postgraduates can attend as auditors but are not eligible for scholarships.

    The application deadline for the Spring Semester is February 1st, 2024.

  • Evening with the Ukrainian Duo "Інша тиша" ("Another Silence")

    The Ukrainian Club (Jena) cordially invites you to a musical-poetic evening with the Ukrainian duo "Інша тиша" ('Another Silence'). The creative duo consists of the poet Kateryna Voloshyna and the musician, bassist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Serhiy Radzetskiy.

  • Program of Advanced Training for Academic and Pedagogical Staff (Autumn 2023)

    The program aims to provide participants with comprehensive knowledge and skills in utilizing corpora as a crucial tool for organizing and analyzing linguistic data. It will cover various aspects, including the availability of corpus resources for different languages, with a particular focus on Ukrainian. Participants will also explore corpus structure, markup techniques, and tools for effectively working with corpus data.

  • Interdisciplinary Conference: Developing Ukrainian Studies (October 12 – 13, 2023)

    The conference „Ukrainistik entwickeln: Ukraine in Forschung und Lehre in der Fächern Slavistische Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft, Slavistische Linguistik im Dialog mit der Osteuropäischen Geschichte“ aims to facilitate direct exchange among influential scholars. Its objective is to undertake a substantive and structural assessment of Ukrainian studies research in the mentioned fields, identify potential disciplinary and interdisciplinary research topics for the coming years, and discuss approaches for the structural and thematic integration of Ukrainian studies in university teaching.

  • Course in Literary Translation Russian/Ukrainian-German with Claudia Dathe (Winter Semester 2023/2024)

    Claudia DatheExternal link is a well-known literary translator from Russian and Ukrainian. She has received several awards, including the Drahomán Prize, and holds the Federal Cross of Merit. In Jena, she teaches literary translation.

    The course "Literary Translation Russian/Ukrainian-German" provides an introduction to literary translation. Initially, we will focus on the translation process and the general conditions of translation in practice. Subsequently, we will work on solutions for aesthetic, linguistic, and cultural translation challenges. The course is based on Russian and Ukrainian journalistic and fictional texts from the 20th and 21st centuries.

    The course is offered across universities and will take place in a combination of in-person and online sessions.
